Safeway Senior Moving Consultant Richie Valencia
Company Name : Safeway Moving inc
Moved from WA to AZ.
Our property was picked up on 5-5-23 & delivered on 5-22-23 I have moved 5 times with professional movers. I have never had my property treated with such disrespect & carelessness as I did with Safeway. Items are missing, furniture broken in two, furniture was scratched, dented, gouged, & broken. Safeway employees had no regard for my personal property, they threw items, lost & broke parts off of my gas grill, smashed boxes, broke furniture, scratched furniture, gouged furniture and tied 3 mattresses and box springs on the back of the semi truck which traveled from WA to AZ in road debris, rain, and snow! Hired Safeway Moving for my long-distance move. COST ESTIMATESafeway conducted a video survey or “virtual estimate”of my belongings and provided a price for my move.
I was on the video conference with Safeway for over an hour, going through every cabinet and every room of the house in great detail. The survey was wrong. The final pricing and move was over $3,000 more. Safeway advertises and promotes “binding estimates” that contain no hidden costs. When they have your property they say it will cost an additional amount of money. At that time your stuck and have to pay the extra. So much for a binding estimate. MOVING DAY-AFTER all the trucks were loaded the Safeway representative told me I had more boxes than I told them & charged additional fees.
He also changed the guaranteed cubic foot rate from $7.69 to $8.10. I showed him the paperwork that guaranteed my rate at $7.69 the rep. responded OK &I thought he changed it. He did not. I found this out when my property was delivered. I could not verify the box count or anything else because all of my property was in the trucks. DELIVERY DAY Safeway mover, Dimitrii requested a cashiers check for the remainder due before he would open the semi trucks doors to unload my property. I gave the check to Dmitrii & then he began to unload. I watched them open the side door to the truck & observed several items fall to the ground. I also observed several mattresses & box springs tied to the outside rear of the truck. They were pinched down tight with straps. I didn’t believe these were my mattresses, they were to be in boxes in the truck. They were mine! Transported from WA to AZ 1500 miles in the rain, snow, & road debris.Numerous boxes were smashed & torn with some items inside being lost. 108 boxes out of 274, were badly damaged 39.42% 4 boxes were totally lost Several pieces of furniture were scratched, dented, & broken; my rocking chair had the rockers broken off, BBQ grill was destroyed-bent gas line, bent lid, missing several pieces. The side of a shelf broken in two & missing pieces, anything with wheels had wheels broken off & are gone.
These are just a few examples. My full size 3 yr old freezer was brought into my home on a dolly dented & upside down. Several boxes had a black tarry goo on the bottom of them. The movers set these boxes on my carpet. I found the boxes stuck to the carpet. Now parts of the boxes & black tarry goo is embedded into my carpet. After watching them unload &seeing all the damaged boxes & broken furniture, I called Richie asking for a representative to come out & see the damaged boxes & numerous broken pieces of furniture. I also emailed him saying “Wow Richie, this is the worst move I’ve ever had. I am incredibly upset numerous things are broken, damaged & smashed. I don’t know if you want to send a representative out here to take a look at this but it’s ridiculous.
I have moved with professional movers five times and this by far is the worst I’ve ever seen.Richie responded saying,”Well D.., I’m very sorry to hear that. I will have customer service reach out to you right away. I’m not sure what happened but this is not typical.” BAIT & SWITCH I was charged extra money at picked up & the cubic foot price was changed. The mover had the price/rate at $8.10 instead of my guaranteed rate of $7.69. When my property was delivered I compared the total box count I gave to Safeway & the box count delivered, I included the 4 boxes they lost.
I was off by 1 box yet I was charged and additional $1,784.48. UNPACKING As I unpacked each box I photographed the box before opening, after opening the box & the inventory number. A few boxes had no inventory number, the sticker was totally gone. As I unpacked the box, if I found something broken, I photographed it and the wrapping materials.
I spent the next 7 months unpacking & taking photographs of the damaged boxes, damaged furniture, & anything broken as a result of the movers. I documented with photographs the damage to the boxes, how the item was packed inside the box & the item number on the inventory list. I was now ready to file my claim, another disaster.
